Contact
If you want to get in touch with me please feel free to drop me a line — regardless of if it is in a professional or personal capacity. I'll try to answer you in a timely manner.
My email address is tobias(at)lidman-strauss.se
I firmly believe email to be one of the best forms of digital communication. Everyone has an email address and you do not need a previous connection to, or an account on the same social media network as, the person you are trying to reach. It's very much underrated for all the wrong reasons.1
If you want to (optionally, but preferably) encrypt2 your correspondence, the easiest way to do so is by using Proton as your email provider. Since I use Proton as well your email will be automatically encrypted. If you use any other email provider you can use my public key.3
Contact me on Signal
I'm available on Signal, and this is my preferred method of communication next to email. Just click here to find me on Signal on a computer or any other device with Signal installed.
Contact me on Linkedin
If your request is a professional one you may want to add me to Linkedin. So if it suits you best, this is me on Linkedin.
How to make your personal email useful? Treat it as a professional email. Do not subscribe to newsletters you don't want to read. Unsubscribe from every marketing email. You should only get email you actually want to read. Make sure it's used for actual conversation!
If you think the whole idea of encryption feels a bit odd and suspicious, remember that, as the Free Software Foundation puts it:
There's no objective way to judge what constitutes privacy-sensitive correspondence. As such, it's better not to presume that just because you find an email you sent to a friend innocuous, your friend (or a surveillance agent, for that matter!) feels the same way. Show your friends respect by encrypting your correspondence with them.
It's easy to think that proponents of privacy always wants it for their own sake, but I believe we should turn that thought around. It's something we should do for each other. In a world were our data is hard currency and I encourage you to start using it if you don't already. If you need help getting started with encrypted mail read this excellent guide from the FSF: Email self-defence
